Best 4 West Community Action GroupWe have now formed a new Action Group to get things done in our area. These are our aims and objectives The aims and objectives of the group are :- To improve the area and make it a better place to live. Cut crime and the fear of crime. Promote an old time community spirit. To coordinate with other groups in the area to provide a better use of resources. To take action on local issues and get improvements done. To get out on the streets and get things done. To ensure that local people opinions are heard and considered in any changes in the area. We are not about talk but about action we will be out next week getting our hand dirty cleaning up the area
Here is a picture of the back of Underwood Lane as it is now. On Sunday we will be out cleaning the area and trying to get people in the area to help us. We hope people will then have pride in their own area and keep it clean in the future. Its a small start but its action and we will grow in strength and do more in the future Here is the backs after Sundays Clean Up. We had a reasonable turn out but could have done with more. We collected over 50 bags of rubbish in 3 hours and certainly made a difference to the area. I think people were a bit shocked to actual see people turn up they thought we were like other groups all talk. Its been a small start to the B4W and we hope we can do more in the future and really make a difference.
We are now challenging the Scouts to match our efforts in this picture you can see the Scouts Land in Oxford St the front part is what we have cleaned and the rest is a real mess and this is what it was like before we stepped in. There was too much work for our team to finish the rest of their land. So we are challenging them to match our efforts.
This is what the rest of the Scout's Land looks like and how the area looked before we started so come on Scouts Dib Dib Dob Now the scouts are trying to sell this land but are omitting to tell prospective buyers that the land contains buried Asbestos. In 1995 the Scouts demolished the old scout hut which had a Asbestos roof, to save money they buried the Asbestos. It was featured in the local newspaper in 1995. The Estate Agents are not interested in telling anyone about this problem as it seems profit is their only interest.
When is a Charity Shop not a Charity Shop? When it is a new shop that has opened in West St Crewe with the shop front saying Charity Shop. After lots of complaints from local people I visited the shop and asked them what there charity was and could I see there charity number. I was told they were not a charity but a Ltd company of a local Residents group. I called the group to confirm this and they also told me they were not registered as a charity. I don't know about you but to me I expect a charity shop to be a genuine charity and any shop that deceives people into giving them cloths and goods for a none charity shop must be guilty of some criminal act. We are fighting this case. The shop claim they have applied for Charity Status but at the moment are not a Charity. Trading Standards have looked at the problem and confirmed that they are effectively breaking the Trade Descriptions Act. We have asked them to enforce the law and have the sign covered. This has been over a week and the law is still being broken. We have now heard from the Charity Commission who have no knowledge of this shop. We have again asked Trading Standards to enforce the law and get the sign removed. Their has been no response from them and people are asking questions why they are not enforcing the law. The Charity Commission have now confirmed that they did actual apply for Charity Status some time ago and were refused. This mean effectively that they new full well they were not a Charity and still went ahead and put the sign up anyway. This means that the only thing on their minds was to con the Public into giving them goods believing that they were a Charity. Local people are now demanding that the money they have made since May when they claimed to be a Charity should be given to a registered Charity. Other question being asked are why it has taken so long to get any action on this shop as another shop was exposed by the press after this one. It appears Crewe is the place for false Charity shops. The diffrence between this shop and the other is that the owners of this shop are on the Board Of the West End Project and have friends on the Council.
